Questions to Donn Koh, winner of the BraunPrize 2007
Participating in the BraunPrize 2009 young designers get the chance to set a milestone in their professional career. We asked Donn Koh, the winner of the BraunPrize 2007, how the BraunPrize has influenced his career and what he would recommend to other participants.

  1. Did winning of the BraunPrize help you to establish international contacts?
It gave me excellent international exposure, especially via the Internet.
I got a few nice jobs, and made some great friends. And I am still getting many emails from people wanting to buy LeapFrog.

  3. What role did the BraunPrize play when applying for these jobs? Did it help you to get them?
Getting good jobs requires good work in your portfolio and good social skills for communication and team work. BraunPrize helped as a “stamp of approval”.

  4. Did you or do you have any valuable (international) contacts due to the BraunPrize 2007?
My friends and mentors at GRO design in Eindhoven are my most valued international contacts that I’ve got to know partly due to BraunPrize. (And partly due to a tutor Ms. Christiane English)

I had the chance to meet the jury of BraunPrize, and the people who work at Braun.

I’ve also managed to keep in touch with some nice people like Gerlinde and Till at Braun GmbH. ; )

I got to know the other finalists from various countries who I should really try to get in touch with.

Oh... and I had the great honour of a handshake from Dieter Rams! =)

  5. What would you recommend to the participants of the BraunPrize 2009?
Don’t focus on the award or the prize.

Firstly, focus on the value that your work brings to our world – Do that well!

Then secondly, focus on communicating that value as clearly as you can.
